Surgical treatment planning for the single-unit implant in aesthetic areas.

چکیده
The clinical application of multiple implant-supported restorations in edentulous jaws has proven to be a predictable long-term treatment (1, 2). The implant-supported restoration has also been proposed for the replacement of the single tooth (48). The single-tooth implant restoration has changed treatment planning of the missing tooth in the anterior sextant. Clinical situations in which singletooth implants are considered the first option include 1) edentulous areas delimited by non-restored teeth, 2) edentulous areas delimited by intact restorations and 3) dentitions with diastemata (25). The success rate of implant-supported singletooth restorations is comparable to that of implantsupported prostheses in totally edentulous patients (Table 1). However, the goal of modern implant therapy in aesthetic areas is no longer represented just by the successful osteointegration of the implant. The final result has to be an implant-supported restoration surrounded by a soft and hard tissue environment in harmony with the existing dentition (82). Although current dental technology allows creating artificial teeth perfectly matching the natural tooth, the soft and hard tissue surrounding the restoration cannot always be reconstructed. To pursue a predictable aesthetic result with the single-tooth implant, the practitioner needs to consider all the variables that influence the final outcome before the treatment is provided. Furthermore, surgical procedures must be performed precisely. An error in soft tissue management or implant positioning, despite the presence of a sufficient volume of soft tissue and bone, may lead to a major aesthetic failure. This chapter discusses the surgical treatment planning of implant placement for a single-tooth restoration in aesthetic areas. Pre-surgical determinants, surgical procedures and treatment sequenc-

Principles of flap design in dental implantology.
There is no single flap design that serves as the optimal approach for every implant surgery, and as the need for cosmetic procedures with minimally invasive techniques increases, so, too, does the variability in flap design. In other words, there is no single technique that is suited to every surgical situation, and the skilled surgeon must be thoughtful and creative in selecting every incisio...
متن کاملManagement of a Congenitally Missing Lateral Incisor with Orthodontics, Bone Grafting (a New Method) and Single-Tooth Implant: A Case Report
Careful treatment planning, space management, augmentation of bone and attention to the details of implant surgical and prosthetic techniques are important factors when treating anterior maxilla specially replacement of missing teeth. This case report addresses a chair-side ridge augmentation procedure using autograft bone harvested with trephine drills and placed without using screws and the f...
متن کاملCapsular Weakness around Breast Implant: A Non-Recognized Complication
Capsular contraction is a frequent complication following breast augmentation. On the other hand, capsular weakness, a not widely recognized complication, may occur around the implant. A weak capsule allows the migration of the prosthesis to the lateral region of the thoracic region or inferiorly, towards the abdomen, due to gravitational forces. The cause of capsular weakness remains unresolve...
متن کاملRelationship of Life Satisfaction and Satisfaction with Fixed Implant-Supported Prostheses in the Elderly
Background and Aim: The quality of dental treatment is one of the factors that affects life satisfaction in the elderly. Patients expect optimal function, esthetics, and speech from their prosthesis, while durability and technical considerations are also important for clinicians. In addition, social and psychological factors as well as costs can affect patient satisfaction. This study aimed to ...
متن کاملUnilateral Maxillary Lateral Incisor Agenesis with Mini Implant Prostheses: A Case Report
Orthodontic management for patients with single or bilateral congenitally missing permanent lateral incisors is a challenge to effective treatment planning. Over the last several decades, dentistry has focused on several treatment modalities for replacement of missing teeth. The two major alternative treatment options are orthodontic space closure or space opening for prosthetic replacements. F...
